Gottlieb Fitness members training in group

The Gottlieb Center for Fitness sponsors events designed to improve the health and education of not only our members but our entire Chicagoland community. Free lectures with physicians or Center for Fitness instructors on timely topics, day-long wellness programs and other special interest events are regularly offered throughout the year.

GCFF offers more than 80 group exercise classes each week, available free to members as part of their monthly dues. From water classes in the warm water pool, mind-body offerings in the studio, to cycling classes in the small exercise room, certified instructors teach classes seven days a week, from 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check our online calendar for times, and our class list.

Group classes

ABC CYCLE

Combine cardiovascular exercise with resistance training (using tubing and dumbbells) during this 45- to 60-minute class. You select a baseline intensity level to fit your fitness ability and goals, and then challenge your aerobic capacity by utilizing hill, sprint and interval training.

ANYTHING GOES

This class is designed for the advanced exerciser and for those ready to take on that extra challenge. Expect anything and everything, including the use of a variety of strength equipment with some cardio.

ANYTHING GOES 2

This class is designed for the advanced exerciser and for those ready to take on an extra challenge. Expect anything and everything, including the use of a variety of strength equipment with more cardio than in Anything Goes.

AQUA BLAST

Make the water’s resistance work for you during this high-energy cardiovascular workout in our warm-water pool. This class concludes with muscular strength training and full-body stretches.

AQUA MOTION

Combine cardiovascular exercise with resistance training (using tubing and dumbbells) during this 45- to 60-minute class. You select a baseline intensity level to fit your fitness ability and goals, and then challenge your aerobic capacity by utilizing hill, sprint and interval training.

AQUA PIYOCHI

Try this unique aqua mind and body class that combines Pilates, yoga and tai or ai chi in our warm-water pool. Renew and release stress through fluid and gentle movements of tai and ai chi. You'll strengthen your core with Pilates, while you increase your mobility with the stretches and postures of yoga.

AQUA STRENGTH

Use the warm-water pool's resistance to increase muscular strength and endurance. Dumbbells, noodles, Aquafins, and balls are used to strengthen all parts of the body.

AQUA STRIDE

Walk, jog and side-step in our warm-water pool during this continuous workout that involves basic choreography to target muscle groups from all angles.

AQUA VARIETY

Try something new each week. This class will combine cardio with strength-training in a variety of formats. Equipment may be used in this warm-water workout.

ASHTANGA YOGA

A dynamic branch of Hatha Yoga. This class will introduce you to yoga's "primary series," which is a sequence of postures linked together by a set of breath-connected movements. These movements will help develop strength and flexibility. Postures are typically held for three to five deep breaths.

BASIC HATHA YOGA

Perform Hatha Yoga poses while seated in a chair. Some chair-assisted standing poses may be incorporated to promote balance and stability. This is a great option for those who have limited mobility and wish to increase flexibility. The class ends with a final relaxation.

CARDIO CIRCUIT

Combine fun and fitness to increase your cardiovascular, muscular and endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Strength work is achieved with tubing and hand weights, alternating with the ball and low-impact choreography.

CORE CONDITIONING

Try this challenging core strengthening workout that uses a variety of equipment, including Resist-a-Balls, BOSUs, medicine balls & the Core Pole to provide one efficient abdominal, waist and back workout.

CROSS TRAINING

This class features several formats and uses many different pieces of equipment. The focus is on a combination of cardio and strength training.

DEEP H20

This class will be held in the lap pool and floatation belts and other equipment will be used. Come and try this challenging but fun class. No swimming experience is necessary.

EXPRESS BLAST

Be prepared for a combination of simple but intense athletic drills that gets the whole body involved in this short but "sweet" 45 minute class. Body weight and a variety of equipment can be used.

FREE TO MOVE

Use the support and resistance of our warm-water pool to relieve chronic pain, fatigue, stiffness and stress. Perform gentle movement patterns to increase range of motion and promote a feeling of total body wellness. This is a great class for anyone who has arthritis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis or who just prefers a slower-paced class. There is no cardiovascular component in this class.

FIT YOGA

A more challenging version of traditional yoga, combining a series of poses that requires upper body strength while also working on flexibility.

GENTLE YOGA

This yoga class focuses on body awareness, flexibility and breath, at a less strenuous and slower pace.

GOLDEN SPOKES

This 30-minute stationary cycling class is designed for the older adult or de-conditioned beginner. Some upper body conditioning may be included.

HATHA YOGA

The focus is on body alignment, breathing techniques and a variety of poses. This class promotes concentration, relaxation and flexibility and concludes with 10 to 15 minutes of meditation.

KICK BOX CIRCUIT

This class combines punches and kicks with a circuit-like format to make this a unique and fun, but challenging workout. Jump ropes, boxing gloves and other equipment may be used.

PILATES

Explore this mind/body regimen of smooth and flowing exercises that focus on core strength and the flexibility of the spine. Improve posture, breathing and alignment with the goal of creating a balanced, structurally sound body.

POWER FLEX PLUS

The focus of this class includes strength training, as well as cardio intervals and core exercises in this a unique 75-minute class.

POWER SCULPT

This class offers a complete muscular workout that focuses on upper and lower body, as well as core conditioning. A variety of equipment may be used including, free weights, tubing, Resist-A-Balls, BOSU’s and medicine balls.

SILVER SNEAKERS CLASSIC

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing and ball are used for resistance and hand and eye coordination. Chairs are used for seating and standing support.

STEP IT UP

This hour-long class uses the step and combines step intervals and choreography with high intensity intervals (HIIT) and all-body strength work.

STEP VARIETY

Benefit from this workout that consists of choreography on a step, which can be adjusted to change the intensity. Formats may also include Step/Slide, Step/Sculpt or Circuit.

STRICTLY CYCLE

A 45-minute group cycling class that utilizes lower body cycling intervals to put your legs to the test. This class will increase leg power and stamina to improve outdoor riding and boost your aerobic capacity. Cyclists can monitor their intensity levels with heart rate monitors built into the Life Fitness bikes. There will be no upper body resistance component.

TAI CHI

Recent medical studies confirm that Tai Chi improves strength and balance. Slow methodic movements can help create balance and flexibility.

YOGA/PILATES

A great combination of core exercises from Pilates, complimented with Yoga stretches and relaxation at the end of class.

ZUMBA

Ditch the workout and come join the party. Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music and dance themes creating a dynamic, exciting and effective workout.
