Life, they say, is a series of choices. By supporting Loyola University Medical Center, you make the choice to be part of a hospital focused on providing high-quality patient care, grounded in Catholic Jesuit traditions. You make the choice to give back and to provide for others in their time of need. You make the choice to support the medical center that saved Pastor David Sitler’s life.
Last Christmas, Pastor Sitler traveled to Nicaragua with his family to serve those less fortunate. It was during this mission trip that he stumbled and fell while carrying a pot of boiling water, badly burning his face and upper body. As soon as he saw my arm blistering, he panicked. Pastor Sitler was taken to the closest hospital, which was three hours away. With every minute that passed, the chance of infection increased. After arriving, his wife realized she had to get him back to the United States and a hospital that could provide the care he needed. The Sitlers chose Loyola.
Within three days, Pastor Sitler was airlifted from Nicaragua to Loyola University Medical Center, where he spent the next nineteen days in the hospital’s burn unit, undergoing skin grafts and physical therapy to help improve his mobility.
“The devoted staff and volunteers provided support and guidance to my entire family, helping us through this traumatic time,” he said. “As a pastor, I have dedicated my life to carrying out God’s work in the same way the staff at Loyola has dedicated their lives to treating not just the patient, but also the human spirit.”
As we celebrate the season of giving, you, too, can choose Loyola by making a gift to the hospital’s annual fund today. Whether you choose to support the hospital’s greatest needs or a specific program, every gift makes a difference. While Pastor Sitler is most grateful for the care he received at Loyola, he is also grateful for those who provide philanthropic support to the medical center that saved his life. Simply email us and let us know that you, too, choose Loyola!
